DLPOA — Deer Lake Property Owners' Association

About DLPOA

For over 50 years, the Deer Lake Property Owners' Association (DLPOA) has worked to protect and improve Deer Lake in Stevens County, Washington — about 35 miles north of Spokane and 5 miles from Loon Lake. With more than 400 members, DLPOA is one of the largest property-owner organizations in the state.

DLPOA was founded on October 4, 1974. As the first president, W. A. (Bill) Twitchell, put it, the purpose was “to band together to protect the Lake and, with the strength of group deliberation and commitment, adequately field the community problems involved.” Fifty-nine charter members got it started — and got a gold card for their trouble.

Our mission

  • Protect water purity — keeping Deer Lake's water clean and healthy.
  • Ensure safety — supporting emergency response, road safety, and law enforcement on the lake.
  • Monitor development — encouraging responsible growth while preserving the lake's natural beauty.
  • Serve as a community voice — advocating for property owners with county and state officials.

What DLPOA has done

  • Helped bring a lake-wide sewer and water system to Deer Lake — a roughly 20-year effort completed in the early 1990s.
  • Funds and supports the fish hatchery / fish pen program, releasing fresh stock into the lake each year.
  • Runs the milfoil control program under the Deer Lake Lake Management District.
  • Organizes the semiannual road cleanups and the free Chipper days with Stevens County.
  • Purchased and protected the wetlands in the narrows to safeguard water quality.
  • Funded safety improvements: guard rails, speed-limit signs, fire hydrants (from 3 to 36), warning buoys, and equipment for the Deer Lake fire station.
  • Provides dock-demolition assistance and maintains the Deer Lake entrance signs.
  • Monitors lakefront development, shoreline management, and zoning on behalf of property owners.

How we stay in touch

  • Monthly community forums (about nine a year) with guest speakers — County Commissioners, Fish & Game, Fire Department, Utilities, and the Sheriff's Office. See Meetings & Events.
  • A community newsletter mailed three times a year, plus an annual activities calendar.
